I'm sat in Wil & Chris' place in Marrickville. The house is being divested of it's contents and occupants this week. It was a fitting time to bring Norris' one-way relocation circus into town and join my pile of boxes with their growing pile. A great big fiesta of moving. That's why for me this month is MOVEmber and I didn't grow a Mo to support my brothers in their quest for health awareness this year.
Wednesday 2 weeks ago I finished my temporary ESL teaching job in Brisbane and started "the big move". The following Monday I sold my Kombi, my travelling companion of many years, to a silversmith on the sunshine coast. That was as far north as Jonah (the Van) and I had been together. It was a fitting farewell. I slept in the belly of the big yellow bus by the beach for the last time. In Brisbane later that day I picked up a bigger van. A tourists camper van from apollo. It was a one-way relocation special. all the bells and whistles for less than a flight, all fuel paid for. I loaded it with the remains of my sorted possessions (still a lot) and headed south that night to the Northern Rivers.
Dawn last Tuesday was witnessed by me from Cape Byron. The happy globe rising over the sea welcomed me into my future. After a mad cap drive down the pacific hwy I arrived in Sydney, exhausted. That was last Wednesday and my world turned upside down over the weekend, but I was in the right place to cope, time with family and close friends and a long walk in the absolutely splendid Royal National Park.
So it's taken some time to get it all together but I say the journey begins today because I feel I've most freely chosen it at this point rather than just being swept along by the torrent of my emotions. Aren't they fantastic? We wouldn't go anywhere without them. Especially relevant to internet travelers. A dry salute to eMotions.
I best be off before my time runs out again. I've got a car for a few days and it's taking me and "my things" to Albury. Via Canberra to pick up my sister. The One-Way Norris Relocation Circus ups camp and moves on.
